The Shinobi Handbook

On first joining, a 12-page scroll titled "Shinobi Handbook" opens.

How It Works

  • It can't be skipped: Escape does nothing, and each page's Next button waits 3.5 seconds before it works ("Read... N").
  • If anything else takes the screen, the Handbook comes back on the page you were on.
  • Going Back needs no wait. The last page's button is "Begin".
  • While you are reading it, nothing can hurt you.
  • It is shown on every join until you've read it to the end. When you finish: "You've finished the Shinobi Handbook. Press your Shinobi Menu key anytime to see your progress."
  • The pages name your own current key bindings.
  • Server staff can show it to you again.

The Pages

  • 1. Welcome to Kageborne: you begin as an Academy student; read each page.
  • 2. The Shinobi Menu: press J to open it (Character, Jutsu, DNA, Village, Map, Squad, Settings).
  • 3. Levelling Up: the four XP sources; until level 10 any XP counts; from 10 each fills only its own share.
  • 4. Skill Points and Jutsu Points: SP go on stats (Character page), JP on jutsu (Jutsu page).
  • 5. Fighting and Casting: jutsu are cast only in Combat Mode (R). Pick a jutsu with the Left/Right arrows and right-click to cast (hold to charge). Hold a release to cast its nature's jutsu, or keep your hand empty for your loadout. Kunai and shuriken are thrown by holding right-click. G is Chakra Control and Left Alt dashes.
  • 6. Natures and DNA: you start with the Ninjutsu release, and your first chakra nature comes at level 10 (see Starter Kit and Level 10 Awakening). More natures come from DNA: roaming village ninja drop chakra fragments, a Chakra Engineer turns 10 fragments into DNA, and a Ninja Scientist injects it for ryo. Each nature awakened gives its release.
  • 7. Clans and Bloodlines: your clan is revealed at level 10. The bloodline sleeps until you're pushed to the edge: from level 25, being beaten near death in a fight may awaken it. Sharingan tomoe grow the same way once your chakra is strong enough. A Mangekyo slowly blinds each eye it's used with. Hold N to change your eyes.
  • 8. Villages and Ranks: join a village (from the Village page); attacking your own village's ninja costs honor; the Genin Exam opens at level 10; Chunin and Jonin must be promoted to.
  • 9. Missions: from your village's Kage; they pay XP and ryo and get harder by rank.
  • 10. The Genin Exam: hourly, on the hour, for Academy students of level 10+; sign up 5 minutes before.
  • 11. Trials: shrines hold boss trials; right-click the altar; a reward chest awaits; 10 pity tokens make that boss's DNA. (Reward chests can also hold a piece of armor, more often in harder trials: see the Trials pages.)
  • 12. Your Journey Begins: squads, /kageborne trade, and train every day.
