Genin Exam: Finals and Rewards
Phase Three: The Finals
- If only one candidate reached the finals, they are the champion straight away. With none, there is no champion.
- Otherwise every finalist is moved to the stands and healed, the bracket order is shuffled, and everyone at the exam reads: "The finals: <n> finalists, one bout at a time."
- 5 seconds later comes the first bout: the next two in the bracket are teleported to the two duel marks facing each other and healed. Everyone at the exam sees the title "<A> vs <B>" with the subtitle "Begin!", and a bell rings.
How a Bout Ends
A bout lasts up to 90 seconds and ends:
- by knockout (the lethal hit is cancelled, and the loser is healed and sent to the stands),
- if a fighter logs out or otherwise drops out (the other wins),
- or on time: the fighter with the larger share of their health left wins (a tie goes to the first-named fighter).
During a bout only the two fighters can hurt each other (damage from no one in particular, like falling or fire, also counts); no one else can be hurt or interfere.
The winner is announced in green, "<name> wins the bout!", and goes to the stands, healed. There are 5 seconds between bouts.
Rounds
Everyone is paired off in order, and an odd one out gets a bye into the next round. When a round ends with more than one winner, everyone sees "Next round: <n> remain." and the winners are paired again. This continues until one remains.
The champion receives +3,000 ryo (the first time only) and +2,000 XP (Missions), and the whole server reads "<name> is the champion of this hour's Genin Exam!" in gold.
The End of the Exam
- Everyone still at the exam sees the title "The Exam Is Over" with "Returning you home...", and 10 seconds later all are teleported back to where they were standing when the exam began.
- Leftover outlaws are removed, and the next exam is set for the next full hour.
- Server staff can call the exam off at any time: everyone reads "The Genin Exam has been called off." and all candidates are sent home.
Reward Summary
Exam ryo is paid only once per shinobi for each stage, ever. A retake pays nothing again for a stage you've already been paid for.
- Passing the written test: 300 ryo, the first time you ever pass it. If you fail the survival phase and come back next hour, passing the written test again pays no ryo.
- Reaching the finals (passing): Genin rank and 2,500 XP (Missions), plus 2,000 ryo the first time.
- Champion: a further 2,000 XP (Missions), plus 3,000 ryo the first time.
- The XP is paid each time you earn it, but since passing makes you a Genin and Genin can't take the exam, in practice you only earn it once.
- A champion who wins on their first full run therefore collects 5,300 ryo and up to 4,500 XP in one exam.
- If your character is ever wiped by server staff, you start over as an Academy student and the exam pays its ryo again.
