DNA and Chakra Fragments

Kinds of DNA

  • Nature DNA: one vial per nature that DNA can awaken (every nature except Ninjutsu, Summoning and Jinchuriki), named "<Nature> DNA". Basic natures are Rare, the rest Epic. Stack size 16. The tooltip names its kind (Spiritual nature, Kekkei genkai or Kekkei tota) and its injection price.
  • Eye DNA: Sharingan DNA (red) and Byakugan DNA (lavender), both Epic: "Have a Ninja Scientist inject it to awaken this eye, whatever your clan."
  • Unidentified DNA (Uncommon): "Its nature is unknown. Identify it on the DNA page of the Shinobi Record." It isn't found in survival yet.

The Level-10 Gift

  • On reaching level 10, your clan is rolled and revealed (its bloodline sleeps until level 25), and one of the five basic natures, at random, awakens in you at once.
  • There is no vial to drink: the nature's release item goes straight into your inventory, its skill tree's first node is learned, and the chat says "Your chakra stirs: <nature> has awakened in you. Its release is in your inventory."
  • This first basic nature becomes your natural nature (the one a Natural Nature Release Reroll Token can change).
  • Anyone at level 10 or higher who has no basic nature yet is given one the next time they join or respawn.
  • Old bound vials: before this change, the gift was a bound DNA vial to drink. If you still carry one and have no basic nature, it is used for your first nature when you next join or respawn. Once you have a basic nature, such a vial can't be drunk ("Your first nature has already awakened: this vial can't give you another."). A bound vial can't be thrown away, traded, or dropped on death.

Other DNA

  • All nature DNA must be injected by the Ninja Scientist for ryo; trying to drink it tells you "Only a Ninja Scientist can inject this DNA."
  • Eye DNA is injected by the scientist (22,500 ryo) into anyone, of any clan: the eye awakens, its tree's first node is learned and you get the title "eye awakened". Refused if you already have that eye or it is unavailable to you.
  • Awakening a nature: its skill tree's first node is learned free, and you receive its release item and the nature's advancement, with a title and a ring of particles.

Identifying Unidentified DNA

Identify samples on the DNA page of the Shinobi Record:

  • Each attempt uses one sample.
  • Success: your Intelligence raises your chance of identifying a sample, up to a cap. The page shows your current chance. Intelligence does nothing else here.
  • On success, the sample becomes one nature's DNA. Basic natures come out most often; Yin and Yang are uncommon; kekkei genkai and hiden releases are rare, and Dust, Bone and Inuzuka are among the rarest.
  • On failure, the sample breaks down and is lost.

Where DNA Comes From

Chakra engineers (from fragments or pity tokens); trial reward chests (now and then a random basic nature's DNA, more rarely the boss's own DNA); and trades with other players.

Chakra Fragments

  • Five items: Fire, Wind, Lightning, Earth and Water Chakra Fragment (Uncommon, stack 64). Tooltip: "Dropped by roaming ninjas of this nature. A Chakra Engineer makes 10 of them into its DNA."
  • Sources: roaming village ninjas (sometimes the fragment of the ninja's own nature; ANBU most often, then Jonin, then Genin) and trial reward chests (often a random basic fragment).
  • Use: 10 of one nature at a Chakra Engineer make that nature's DNA, free.

Pity Tokens

There are 44 pity tokens (Rare, stack 64), one for each trial that has something to spend them on. Source: that trial's reward chest, now and then.

  • DNA trial tokens (27), such as "Wood Pity Token": wood, ice, lava, boil, magnet, storm, scorch, explosion, blaze, swift, steel, dark, typhoon, crystal, mud, dust, bone, shadow, paper, ink, inuzuka, sharingan, mangekyo (gives Sharingan DNA), byakugan, aburame (gives Bug DNA), uzumaki (gives Sealing DNA) and yamanaka (gives Yin DNA).
    • Use: 10 tokens of one trial at a Chakra Engineer make that boss's DNA. Tooltip: "10 of these make <DNA> at a Chakra Engineer."
  • Themed trial tokens (9): the Akatsuki Hideout, Rain Tower, Hokage Tomb, Kage Summit, Uchiha Hideout, Snake's Den, Root, Island Turtle and Training Grounds Pity Tokens.
    • Use: 10 tokens buy one legendary armour piece of that trial's sets from its pity trader. Tooltip: "10 of these buy a legendary armor piece from the <trader>."
  • The Rinnegan and Nine-Tails trials have no token.

Trial Reward Chests

Each player who beat the boss gets their own chest, which only they can open. Each reward is decided separately, so a chest can hold several, shown rarest first. What a chest can hold:

  • A piece of armour from the shared pool of every set, Common to Epic. Harder (higher-level) trials give armour more often, and of better rarity.
  • One of the trial's own legendary armour pieces (themed trials only; rare).
  • The boss's own DNA, for trials whose boss has one (Legendary; rare).
  • A Skill Tree Reset Token or a Natural Nature Release Reroll Token (Epic), or a Clan Reroll Token (Legendary; the rarest of the three).
  • A random basic nature's DNA (Epic).
  • The trial's pity token, if it has one (Rare).
  • A chakra fragment of a random basic nature (Uncommon; often).
  • An extra 2,500 ryo (Common; often, and always if nothing else came up).

The Trial of the Eight Gates is the one exception: its chest can hold only Might Guy's Approval, and Guy gives it rarely. When he doesn't, no chest appears at all (see the Trial of the Eight Gates).
