Genin Exam: Survival and Promotion

Phase Two: Survival

  • Those who passed the written test are teleported to the arena entry, in rows of four 1.5 blocks apart, facing the centre, and healed to full. Title: "Phase two: survival" (red), subtitle "Last through 3 waves. A knockout puts you out."
  • 6 seconds later the first wave comes. There are 3 waves, each announced in red to everyone at the exam, "Survival: wave <n> of 3!", with a raid horn.
  • Wave size: 2 + the wave's number + the number of candidates still standing. With one candidate that is 4, 5 and 6 foes; with four candidates, 7, 8 and 9.
  • Who comes (taken in turn from the list):
    • Wave 1: Street Thug and Scavenger.
    • Wave 2: Street Thug and Bandit Brute.
    • Wave 3: Bandit Brute, Scavenger and Street Thug.
  • The outlaws appear at the arena's 12 spawn points in puffs of smoke, each aimed at a candidate in turn.
  • A wave ends when all its foes are dead or after 90 seconds, whichever comes first (any still standing are removed). The next wave follows right away.
  • In this phase candidates can only be hurt by non-players: candidates cannot hurt each other, and spectators can't be hurt.

Knockouts

  • A hit that would bring you to 0 health is cancelled. You are healed to full, put out if burning, told "You've been knocked out. Watch the rest from the stands." and moved to a seat in the stands.
  • A knocked-out candidate has failed this exam but stays to watch.
  • If every candidate is knocked out (or gone), the exam ends and everyone is sent home.
  • After wave 3: "The survivors advance to the finals!"

Becoming a Genin

Every candidate still standing after the third wave has passed the Genin Exam, before the finals are even fought:

  • Their rank is set to Genin.
  • +2,000 ryo, paid only the first time a shinobi passes.
  • +2,500 XP as Missions XP. This fills the Missions share of the level (40% from level 10 on); any excess for that level is lost.
  • They see, in gold: "You've passed the Genin Exam: you're a Genin now! (+<XP counted> XP, +2,000 ryo)".

So the shortest route to Genin is: be an Academy student of level 10 or higher, sign up, score 5 out of 8, and survive 3 waves.

Once you are a Genin you can't sign up for the exam again, so you get one shot at the finals and the champion's prize. Fight the finals as if they count, because they do.
