Dojutsu Overview
Dojutsu are the eye techniques of Kageborne. Seven eyes are available to players, and each one has a chakra upkeep (paid every second while the eye is open) and a sight range (how far it outlines creatures through walls).
The Eyes
- Sharingan: upkeep 8 chakra per second, sight 32 blocks, red glow.
- Byakugan: upkeep 6 chakra per second, sight 56 blocks, pale lilac-white glow.
- Mangekyo Sharingan (Itachi): upkeep 25 per second, sight 40 blocks.
- Mangekyo Sharingan (Sasuke): upkeep 25 per second, sight 40 blocks.
- Mangekyo Sharingan (Madara): upkeep 25 per second, sight 40 blocks.
- Mangekyo Sharingan (Obito): upkeep 25 per second, sight 40 blocks.
- Mangekyo Sharingan (Shisui): upkeep 25 per second, sight 40 blocks.
Every Mangekyo also counts as a Sharingan: anything that needs "the Sharingan open" works with any Mangekyo open. A Mangekyo always counts as three tomoe.
The Rinnegan, an eighth eye, is coming in a future update (see "The Rinnegan").
Where the Eye Trees Live
All the eye trees sit under the Dojutsu skill-tree hub on the Jutsu page: the Sharingan at the top, the Byakugan on the left, and the five Mangekyo in an arc above the Sharingan, each linked to it.
Awakening a Bloodline Eye
The Sharingan and Byakugan are clan bloodlines (Uchiha and Hyuga). The first node of a bloodline tree can't be bought from the menu; it wakes by itself.
- From level 25, each time a player or creature beats the bearer down to a quarter of their health or less, the bloodline may awaken.
- Whether it awakens or not, it can't try again for 10 minutes (real time).
- Falls, fire, drowning and other non-combat damage never wake it.
- On awakening you get a "bloodline awakened" title, a burst of particles in the clan colour, a beacon sound and a heartbeat.
Eye DNA
Anyone of any clan can get the Sharingan or Byakugan from Sharingan DNA or Byakugan DNA, injected by a Ninja Scientist for 22,500 ryo. This grants the eye's first node; the rest of its tree is learned normally.
The DNA also comes from boss trials: Sharingan DNA from the Trial of the Burning District and the Trial of the Valley of the End, Byakugan DNA from the Trial of the Hyuga Compound. A reward chest rarely holds the DNA itself, and sometimes holds that trial's pity tokens; 10 tokens make the DNA at a Chakra Engineer.
The Sharingan Tree
Genjutsu: Sharingan needs the Sharingan. Sharingan: Copy & Store Jutsu and Sharingan: Foresight both branch from Genjutsu: Sharingan; Mirror Jutsu needs Foresight, and Izanagi needs Mirror Jutsu.
- Sharingan: level 8, 2 skill points, Uchiha clan.
- Genjutsu: Sharingan: level 13, 2 points, Ninjutsu 3.
- Sharingan: Copy & Store Jutsu: level 20, 3 points, Ninjutsu 8 (after Genjutsu: Sharingan).
- Sharingan: Foresight: level 24, 3 points, Ninjutsu 8.
- Copy Wheel Eye: Mirror Jutsu: level 41, 5 points, Ninjutsu 15.
- Izanagi: level 62, 7 points, Ninjutsu 25.
The Byakugan Tree
- Byakugan: level 8, 2 points, Hyuga clan.
- Gentle Fist: level 9, 1 point.
- Eight Trigrams Vacuum Palm: level 13, 2 points, Ninjutsu 3.
- Eight Trigrams Palm Rotation: level 26, 3 points, Ninjutsu 8.
- Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms: level 41, 5 points, Ninjutsu 15; needs both Gentle Fist and Palm Rotation.
- Eight Trigrams Vacuum Wall Palm: level 58, 7 points, Ninjutsu 25.
The Mangekyo Trees
- Each Mangekyo is its own tree. Its first node is the eye itself (listed at level 40, or 45 for Madara's, with 5 skill points).
- A Mangekyo can't be learned from the menu: it shows "Awakens when a squadmate dies near your three-tomoe Sharingan".
- How it awakens: grief. When a member of your squad dies within 24 blocks of you while your Sharingan is open at three tomoe (your own grown tomoe, not only an implanted eye), there is a chance your eyes change. The Mangekyo you get is picked at random from the ones you don't have yet.
- The three-tomoe Sharingan must be open and showing at the moment of the death: a closed eye, or one opened at 1 or 2 tomoe, never awakens.
- The awakening: the screen darkens and your three tomoe spin faster and faster, flash from white to red, and settle into the new Mangekyo's pattern. Then your eye switches to the Mangekyo, and you see the "Mangekyō Sharingan" title with the eye's name and hear a heartbeat.
- Once the eye is yours, the rest of its tree is learned normally from the menu. There is no tomoe requirement.
- A player can hold several Mangekyo.
Opening and Closing an Eye
- Opening an eye (its first technique) costs 40 chakra, has a 1 second cooldown and needs no hand signs. Casting it again closes it.
- Opening flashes particles of the eye's colour in front of the face and plays a sound: every Sharingan and Mangekyo stage uses the Sharingan's own sound, and the Byakugan a high amethyst chime. The action bar shows "<eye> open" in the eye's colour.
- Opening a non-Mangekyo eye while a Susanoo is out dismisses the Susanoo.
- You can also switch eyes with the Eye Evolution Wheel (hold N) or step the Sharingan with Up arrow / Down arrow (see "The Eye Evolution Wheel").
What an Open Eye Does
- Every second while it's open, the upkeep is drained and you get Night Vision (13 seconds, refreshed, with no particles).
- If you are chakra-exhausted or can't afford the upkeep, the eye closes ("no chakra").
- With a Mangekyo open, each seeing eye also goes a little blind every second (see "Mangekyo Blindness and Eye Strain").
- The eye closes on death. On respawn the eye, the Susanoo stage and the Susanoo owner are reset.
- Eye state isn't kept between sessions: eyes close and the Susanoo fades when you log out.
How the Eyes Look on Your Face
- The pattern glows over your skin's eyes: the Sharingan at 1, 2 or 3 tomoe as chosen, each Mangekyo in its own pattern, and the Byakugan with bulging veins at the temples.
- A taken eye shows an empty socket, a Mangekyo-blinded eye shows a clouded iris, and an eye shut on the wheel shows closed.
- An implanted Mangekyo of a different pattern in the other socket wakes with the open one, each in its own pattern.
- The tomoe spin: whenever your Sharingan changes form (opening from plain eyes, gaining or dropping a tomoe, a Mangekyo opening, or closing again), the iris visibly spins into its new form: two whole turns over about 2 seconds, with a motion blur. It turns clockwise going up and anticlockwise going back down. Everyone who can see your face sees it.
- Blood tears: an eye pushed too hard by the Mangekyo bleeds down the cheek, and its white turns bloodshot while its Mangekyo is open (see "Mangekyo Blindness and Eye Strain").
Seeing Through Walls
While any eye is open, every living creature or player (not invisible ones) within the eye's sight range is drawn glowing and outlined through walls, visible to the eye's user only. Ranges: Sharingan 32 blocks, Mangekyo 40, Byakugan 56.
Seeing Health and Chakra
- Sharingan and every Mangekyo: over every creature and player within 32 blocks (above the name tag) you see a red health bar with a blue chakra bar under it. Non-players always show a full chakra bar. A pale trail shows health that was lost a moment ago. No numbers are shown. The bars fade out over the last 6 blocks.
- Byakugan: the same overlay, but chakra alone (one bar in a pale frame, no health), because the Byakugan sees the chakra network, not how hurt anyone is.
