Running a Mission
Starting and Travelling
- On accepting, the chat says "Mission accepted: <name>", then "Time limit: <total> (<travel> of it to get there)". A title shows the mission name with "Head to the waypoint", along with a challenge-complete chime.
- Every mission takes place at a fixed location on the map.
- Waypoint and compass: a gold waypoint named after the mission is placed on the world map, and the navigation compass at the top of the screen points at it with the distance and an up/down hint while you travel. Once you arrive and the mission starts, the compass target clears; the map waypoint stays for as long as the mission lasts. Both are removed when it ends.
- Mission tracker (right side of the HUD): a "MISSION" label, the mission name in gold, and either the travel line with the distance ("elsewhere" if you are in another dimension) or the current step's instruction with a counter (kills x/y, "Wave n/m", escort percentage or a countdown). A row of pips shows steps done (green), the current step (gold) and steps to come. The overall time left sits in the corner, flashing red under 60 seconds.
- Arrival: the mission begins when you are within 24 blocks of its location horizontally and within 40 blocks vertically, in the right dimension.
- Leaving the area: if you go more than 128 blocks away horizontally (or change dimension) while the mission is active, the fight is called off ("You left the mission area. Return to continue."). Its foes and props are cleared, and the current step restarts from scratch when you return. Completed steps stay completed.
- Logging out while the mission is active does the same: everything is cleared and you are back to travelling. Missions in progress are saved with the world; when you return, you travel back and the step starts again.
Time Limits
Every mission's time limit is travel time plus work time.
- Travel time (seconds) = distance in blocks / 6 x 1.5 + 60, rounded, measured from where you accepted to the mission location. Add 300 seconds if the mission is in another dimension.
- Work time (seconds) = the total of every step's time x 1.5 + 60, rounded. Each step contributes:
- Kill: 40 + 10 per foe.
- Waves: 30 + 35 per wave + 6 per foe.
- Defend: its set time + 30 if timed; otherwise 30 + 40 per wave + 6 per foe.
- Escort: the route distance (60 by default) / 1.6 + 30 per wave + 6 per foe.
- Interact: 40 + 20 per prop + 8 per foe.
- Capture: 40 + 30 per foe.
- Survive: its set time + 30.
- Plus, for each boss: the larger of 60 or the boss's health / 40.
- The clock only runs while you are online. You are warned at 60 and 30 seconds left with red action-bar text and a bell. At zero the mission fails ("time ran out").
Completing
- When the last step is done you get the title "Mission Complete" with the mission name, a level-up sound, and the chat line "<name> complete: +<xp> Missions XP, +<ryo> ryo". The ryo shown is before tax; the tax split is applied to your money.
- Squad sharing: every member of your squad who is in the same dimension and within 64 blocks of you when the mission completes also gets the full reward: their own completion count, cooldown, Missions XP and ryo, taxed through their own village. Squadmates can also use your mission's props and bind your mission's subdued foes.
- The board tracks how many times you have completed each mission.
Failing
A mission fails (title "Mission Failed", chat "Mission failed: <name> (<reason>)", a wither sound) when:
- you die while the mission is active ("you died"); dying while travelling does not fail it,
- the ward you were defending or escorting is destroyed ("what you were protecting was lost"),
- the time limit runs out ("time ran out").
Failing clears the mission's foes and props and starts the cooldown. There is no ryo or XP penalty.
Abandoning
Press "Abandon" on the board's active mission, or take another mission. The chat says "Mission abandoned: <name>". Everything belonging to the mission is cleared and the cooldown starts.
Cooldowns
After finishing, failing or abandoning a mission, you cannot take that same mission again for 10 minutes of real time (the cooldown carries over server restarts). Other missions are unaffected. The board shows "Ready in m:ss". Bounty hunts follow the same 10-minute rule for each hunt rank.
