Pity Tokens and Boss DNA

  • There are 44 pity tokens, one for every trial except the Rinnegan and the Nine-Tails: 27 for the original trials, 8 for the Yang, Medical and summoning trials, and 9 for the themed trials. Each is named "<Trial> Pity Token", for example "Lava Pity Token", "Sharingan Pity Token" or "Akatsuki Hideout Pity Token". They stack to 64 and show as Rare. An original trial's token reads "10 of these make <boss DNA name> at a Chakra Engineer."; a themed trial's token reads "10 of these buy a legendary armor piece from the <trader name>."
  • Original trials: ten tokens of one trial make one vial of that trial's boss DNA at a Chakra Engineer NPC (the villages' DNA-trade engineers). The engineer's screen shows a row for each kind of token you carry ("have / 10"), and the row can be used once you have 10. It costs no ryo: the 10 tokens are taken and the DNA vial is given with a golden flourish. With fewer than 10 you see "That takes 10 pity tokens."

Which DNA Each Boss Gives

The boss DNA and the DNA its token makes:

  • Wood: Wood Release DNA. Ice: Ice Release DNA. Lava: Lava Release DNA. Boil: Boil Release DNA. Magnet: Magnet Release DNA. Storm: Storm Release DNA. Scorch: Scorch Release DNA.
  • Explosion: Explosion Release DNA. Blaze: Blaze Release DNA. Swift: Swift Release DNA. Steel: Steel Release DNA. Dark: Dark Release DNA. Typhoon: Typhoon Release DNA. Crystal: Crystal Release DNA.
  • Mud: Mud Release DNA. Dust: Dust Release DNA. Bone: Shikotsumyaku DNA. Shadow: Shadow Release DNA. Paper: Paper Release DNA. Ink: Ink Release DNA. Inuzuka: Inuzuka Release DNA.
  • Sharingan: Sharingan DNA. Mangekyo: Sharingan DNA (the same DNA, with its own token). Byakugan: Byakugan DNA.
  • Aburame: Bug Release DNA. Uzumaki: Sealing Release DNA. Yamanaka: Yin Release DNA.
  • Yang (Akimichi Grounds): Yang Release DNA. Medical Corps: Medical DNA.
  • The six summoning trials give their great summon's Summoning Contract instead of DNA (Gamabunta, Manda, Katsuyu, Hawk, Ibuse, Elephant), and 10 of their pity tokens make that contract at a Chakra Engineer.
  • Rinnegan and Kurama (Nine-Tails): none, and no pity token.
  • The 9 themed trials: no boss DNA. Their tokens buy armor from the pity trader instead, and the Chakra Engineer doesn't take them.

What to Expect

Boss DNA straight from a chest is rare, while pity tokens turn up more often, so saving ten tokens is the dependable route over many runs.

Pity Traders and Legendary Armor

Each themed trial has its own pity trader, a vendor standing on the trial's shrine.

  • Right-click the trader to open the Pity Trader window: "Legendary armor of the <trial name>", your token count, and the hint "Pick a piece, then buy it for 10 of this trial's pity tokens." Pieces are listed set by set (head, torso, legs, feet); scroll for more sets.
  • Pick a piece and press Buy (10). Each legendary piece costs 10 of that trial's pity tokens and no ryo. You see "You bought <piece> for 10 pity tokens." with a golden glow, and the piece goes to your inventory (or drops at your feet, for you only, if it's full). With too few tokens: "You need 10 of this trial's pity tokens."
